It is a partnership program between the Consortium for the quality standard protection „Pane di Altamura a DOP“and the Consortium for the quality standard protection „Oliva da Mensa DOP La Bella della Daunia – Cultivar Bella di Cerignola“.
Dopitalia Asia comes from the wish of our Consortiums for quality standard protection, to maintain the excellent relationship between Asia and that southern part of Italy, called Apulia.
What DOP means
The acronym DOP stands for “Denominazione di Origine Protetta”, the Italian equivalent of “Protected Designation of Origin” (PDO). The law guarantees that only products genuinely originating in that region, are allowed to be merchantable as such.
The purpose of the law is to protect the reputation of the regional foods and eliminate the unfair and misleading competition of consumers by non-genuine products, which may be of an inferior quality or of a different flavour.
In order to be qualified for a DOP product, it must have qualities and characteristics which are essentially due to its region of production; it must also be produced, processed and prepared exclusively within that region.
To produce DOP products, it is necessary to follow the strict rules of the disciplinary of production of every DOP product.
The bread “Pane di Altamura DOP” and the olives “La Bella della Daunia DOP” represent two excellent examples of Italian products, protected by this prestigious European seal of quality.
